Stuff from Instagram

Last week I had the special opportunity to join @protectourwinters on Capitol Hill to talk with members of Congress and government officials about climate action. Ten years ago I finished my first ultra, the Le Grizz 50-miler in Montana, back when they used to run it along the flat dirt road next to the Hungry Horse reservoir. It probably had a cumulative elevation gain of 500 ft for the whole thing. I trained for it all summer by raft guiding, drinking beer, and hiking in Idaho. I packed two (yes, two) peanut butter & jelly sandwiches in my day pack from the start because I didn't trust that the aid stations would have enough food to get me through the whole distance. And I finished in 10h 4m, shuffling to the end in survival mode, absolutely wrecked. Couldn't walk straight for days. So. Much. Gratitude. Luke and Tanae Nelson go above and beyond with @scoutmountainultras . Ultras don't just spring out into the world fully formed. They take a million details, and care, dozens of selfless volunteers, and several nights of very little sleep to make sure hundreds of runners get a safe, fun experience in the mountains. Check it — right now you can double your impact for Footprints! Here at Luke Nelson's @scoutmountainultras today talking to folks about @footprintsrunning and our mission to build leaders for collective climate action, and Luke is graciously matching all donations over the event dollar for dollar! Please come say hi if you're around Pocatello. Successfully defended my master's thesis on Monday! Then got a fantastic run in with a very happy dog. Then tuned into a great @outdooristoath workshop in the afternoon on how to promote inclusion and diversity in the outdoors. Then finished the day with some whiskey, because, you know, why the hell not. Not a bad mix in one day. With @footprintsrunning we're connecting trail runners to climate action. Connecting education to practical solutions. Mixing pragmatism with a healthy dose of idealism. Incubating ideas with support and direction. Thankfully the other millions of social posts today are saving the world, so here's a curveball. "The most important thing an individual can do, is be a little less of an individual." - Bill McKibben
